How To: Build a Pirate Radio Station

Tune into Oasis Pirate Radio on 888AM. We built a Solar Farm with Storage to consistently power our pirate radio station. Now the Drone Hacker and Bounty Hunter are our resident DJs, and the Community Organizer hosts the Oasis Hour - a community talk radio show that plays mornings and evenings at 8. Tune in for some eclectic scavenged beats, and #unfiltered news from outside the Korp Towns.

To build your own Pirate Radio Station, you’ll need power and equipment, along with Black Market Blueprints. Make sure to build your station with an Encrypted Signal - otherwise the Korp will be able to track your station.

Call in to the Oasis Hour if you’re able to build your own encrypted station. Just remember - no identifying names or locations when on the air.

How to: Fix a Broken Solar Panel

You can set up a battery-tied solar system to power your village with no risk of spills or explosions! Propane and gasoline are hard to find in our area, and the decay rate is high. The Oasis is transitioning to 100% local renewable energy, with a solar and wind plus storage solution. (See our How To: Build a Windmill for that project.)

Solar panels can produce electricity for decades with hardly any maintenance. Before America’s bankruptcy solar was very popular, and you can find unused modules all across the Wastelands. (Remember: always check your Geiger counters before bringing any metals back to camp!)

If you have a basic eGranary Digital Library, use the electrician resources to wire the panels in series and set up a bank of car batteries. Make sure to test each battery first before wiring your setup - we learned that the hard way!

You can scavenge outlets, along with the wall fixtures and wiring, from most residential neighborhoods. Pick where in town you want to have power (this can get political, so make sure it’s a transparent process), and set up your storage shed and control room there.

Make sure it’s in an area with heavy topography and high rock content, and use an energy wave scrambler so the Korp Drones don’t detect additional electrical activity.

To minimize the risk of detection, spend the extra energy to install your solar arrays far out of town, in abandoned areas, and bury your wires. Always shield your solar panels from the Korp Town’s direct line of site, and only service your systems at night. This way they mistake it as old urban development, especially if you don’t make the system look too new and fancy. (There’s no risk of that for us I’m sure!)

You can find the complete Blueprints on the Free Web under “Solar Farm” if you happen to have an encrypted network booster, otherwise try Tinkerers when you pass them on the road, or If you ever make it to the Trading Post, ask Monique for the People Power Plans.

How To Section: Special Projects

According to the ancient principals of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, humans need basic physiological and safety requirements to be met before we can feel the love and belonging that creates the self-esteem we need to self-actualize.  The Oasis wants to be a place where Free People (Wastelands born) and Korp Escapees can pursue “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” as said in the Old Constitution.

To achieve Oasis self-actualization, we are working to increase our self-sufficiency by building various projects, using Blueprints we have scavenged in the Wastelands or purchased through the Black Market.

We encourage other groups to focus on upgrading your society’s basic systems so you can multiply your outputs and build strategic reserves. Food, Water, Power, Medicine, Technology, Building Materials, and non-Mod Seeds, are all the resources you need to survive indefinitely provided you aren’t discovered by the Korp.

Once more of our locations have developed their foundational systems our network of applied technologies and adaptive modifications that incorporate current resource constraints, we will be able to share best practices and possibly start a larger underground network.

For now, stay safe out there in the Wastelands, and respond on this encrypted line if you can!
